Speaker Bio
Carlos Villalva is the Administrative Director of the 300P Hospital Renewal Program at Stanford Health Care. After the opening of the new Stanford Hospital facility in late 2019, Stanford Health Care embarked on a major renovation program to modernize the existing adult hospital at the Palo Alto campus. This endeavor will occur over the next seven years, and expend $1.2 billion to systematically reconfigure 272 inpatient care beds in three different towers, completely modernize the Operating Room suite and PACU/Recovery department, build a new Morgue and Autopsy facility, reconstruct the Radiology and Cath Lab departments, renovate public spaces throughout the hospital – all while keeping the hospital open and incorporating seismic safety requirements. Construction on the first phases of the Renewal program began in late 2020.
Carlos has been with Stanford Health Care for the last 14 years, and he initiated the master planning for the Renewal program in 2012. Prior to his engagement with Stanford, he served as Assistant Hospital Administrator at San Francisco General Hospital for 14 years, managing many capital projects, and the master planning that led to the new Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.
Carlos attended UC Berkeley and received undergraduate and graduate education in Architecture and City Planning. He is a licensed architect and has worked extensively with OSHPD on the regulatory framework for seismic safety compliance in hospitals.
