Speaker Bio
Part Office is a Los Angeles-based design studio founded by Kristin Korven and Jeff Kaplon. They design projects of all scales ranging from single objects to large developments, and many homes in between. They’re inspired by both the ambiguity and variety of Los Angeles, making work that is a logical step within the lineage of each place they build. Design is approached with an empathy towards existing conditions, while often introducing a thoughtful tension as a means to discover unobvious potential.
Kristin began her career in the design field in 1999, working with interiors/architectural offices located in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Portland, OR. Her background spans commercial, hospitality, and residential, with projects built in the U.S. and internationally.
Jeff has worked in Los Angeles, New York, and New Orleans at a variety of architectural offices, with focus mostly on residential and multi-family projects. He is the founder and sole curator of Subtilitas, an online architectural archive of contemporary built work. He has participated in a number of exhibitions, conferences, publications, and lectured both locally and abroad.
Jeff and Kristin formed Part Office in 2015 with their studio based in Los Angeles. Their process is rooted in conversation and research, compounded in the act of construction, details, and materiality. They enjoy working with curious and conscientious people, clients, builders, and collaborators towards realizing unique projects in a somewhat anonymous city. The office has been widely published, participated in international exhibitions, and has collaborated with a number of architectural offices such as Mexico City based Productora.
